The art of the interview is something that many of us have yet to master - especially if we’re starting our businesses before having extensive job experience.
So, we wanted to share some of our favorite interview questions. We like creating interviews where people really get the chance to share who they are, and why they’re interested in our projects. Particularly for startups, where hard work and flexibility are required, the interviews are really important! Hiring the wrong person can waste time, money, and other resources.
To pull someone out of their shell, we like some of these questions:
- If today were your last day at work, what would you want to do?
- What are you passionate about?
- Which work interaction are you most proud of?
- What was a problem you solved at your last job, and how did you solve it?
- What experiences do you have that are relevant to this position?
These questions are built to be open-ended. Don’t just ask people about their résumé, you should have that in front of you! What questions can you ask to really draw out who the person is and how well they work in a team?
Flexibility, team-building skills, and passion are incredibly important when you just start a business. And the last question we always ask?
What else should we know about you?
This is a great question. It gives your potential hire an opportunity to share anything that you didn’t ask about, and those things might be integral to who they are, and how they work. Always be sure to leave an open-ended question when you’re hiring for an open-ended job!
