When you’re hiring a new person, what do you ask their references? References are one of the key pieces to understanding whether or not a person will work well inside your company, with your team members, and with your culture. So, what do you ask references to get a true understanding of how someone works?
I’ve asked people before:
- What are you missing now that this person is gone? (Skill, experience, culture, network, etc.)
- What is their work style? Do they work well in teams or alone?
- How well did they integrate with your company’s culture? If they didn’t work well inside the culture, why is that? (Think here about how your company’s culture is different!)
What other questions do you ask?
